Description

A delightful breakfast casserole combining cinnamon, apples, and baked French toast, perfect for busy mornings or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread (French or brioche, cubed)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 apples (peeled and diced)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Butter or cooking spray (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. Layer half of the bread cubes in the greased dish, then sprinkle half of the diced apples and half of the brown sugar over the bread.
  4. Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread and apple layers.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, apples, brown sugar, and egg mixture.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) in the morning.
  8. Bake, uncovered, for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden and the casserole is set.
  9. Sprinkle with chopped nuts before serving if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

Use day-old bread for better absorption of the egg mixture. Feel free to add raisins or dried cranberries for extra flavor. Adjust cinnamon and sugar according to taste.
